If you don’t have a specific goal, then you are largely wasting precious time. When you have a concrete goal with a passionate desire behind it then everything you do toward that target will be far more effective. Simply by setting the goal you’re 10 times as likely to hit it.

Have you heard of SMART goals? This is an acronym that stands for five important pieces of goal setting.

Specific

Is you goal specific? The simple question to ask yourself if will you know the exact moment you have completed your goal? If your answer’s yes, great. If its no, then your goal is not specific, and you won’t know the right actions to take to hit it.

Measurable

Is your goal quantifiable? How are you going to know when you are closer to your goal then you are now? If you can measure it you can track your results. And with tracking comes improvement.

Actionable

Is your goal actionable? Is this a goal you can take action on? Is it something that’s in your powers of control? If it is then you can do something about it and it makes a good goal. If not, you can’t do much about it so do not waste your time on it.

Realistic

Is your goal pragmatic? Is it something you can realistically do? If you are 300 lbs. overweight and want to go into the Olympics next year, I am sorry chum, you do not have a chance, unless they make eating an Olympic sport. Whatever it is it has to be pragmatic to you in your consciousness.

Time-sensitive

Is you goal time dependent? This means does it have a deadline. When you set a cut-off point you seriously speed up the process of your accomplishment of that goal. Without a cut off point your accomplishment can just move much further away.

If you cover these five points when for any exercise or sport related goals you have you’ll achieve much more.

Have you ever met a person whom, at the very first glance, doesn’t appear to have focus? But hey, wait a minute – maybe that hit a little too close to home? We won’t get down on you if you are, because studies show even those people you see in Forbes magazine feel like this at times. Don’t you sometimes feel that way, as if you’re going through the same old grind, running in place in the grand workout we call everyday life? You know what, it does remind me of the treadmill analogy – a good way to feel beat by the end of the day, a good way to get nothing out of something.

While a lot of us think that such a routine way of living is not satisfactory, there are experts who believe this thinking may actually be to our benefit. I bet some of you are like, you must be kidding, right? That seems totally against everything we’ve been taught.

Really, it is those among us who are not unhappy about being in The Pits that will never get out of aforementioned bottomless abyss. If we are thinking about our goals, we will stand a much better chance of achieving them.

Battle stations, everybody, let’s ask ourselves a couple questions:

What actions are we taking to meet our goals? Are your goal-achieving activities consistant? Are we still being ourselves while doing these things?

Have you undergone some “waste management” in terms of our lifestyle and mindset? Is there anything that distracts from your goal achievement stratagem?

Practice numbers 1 and 2 above!

Bear in mind that great things often take a while to accomplish. Oh sure, we hear about this guy or that gal that came in and became the top salesperson of their Company in a few weeks flat. Are such achievements possible? Sometimes. Here’s my personal point of view – prepare long and hard if you really want to be successful. Overnight success doesn’t happen to everybody. For example, was Tiger Woods successful the first time he picked up a golf club? Negative, partner – he finished 22nd place, not exactly tasting the bubbly with that position!

Enough trivia, back to the pit. Fine, let’s get back to the pit – if you can’t get out of it, why not turn on a dime and do something different? Make some new goals, imagine what life will be like when you’re achieved them, get rid of what isn’t working. Learn to think of the best case scenario and keep your new and old goals written on paper. Also, remember to practice realistic patience.

We already know it; setting goals is the vital thing to personal development. Just about any life coach really worth his salt will advise you that when you want adjustments to your daily life, you need to transform your desires into doable, clear, and considerable goals.

If you want to set targets which may have a high probability of keep going, you should know what things to stay away from. Take into account the next Top 3 Sins in Goal-Setting:

Not Remembering Unsuccessful Efforts

Solution-focused counseling methods suggest that the initial step in goal-setting needs to be an analysis of prior attempts.

Have you attempted slimming down before? If so, then what happened? Why did you fall short? Or perhaps if you have prevailed, what made you relapse? In case you have a clear idea of what brought about your downfall(s) first time around, you’ll have the ability to modify your present goals in a way that you simply shield towards weaknesses.

Not really Aligning Goals to One’s Advantages

It proved helpful for my sister; certainly it’s going to benefit me as well? Er, no.

Personal growth is all about growing yourself, not someone else. Each person has distinct strong points, of course, if you want your ambitions to get results for you, you should customize them based on yours. The next door neighbor’s new financial management plan could possibly be easy-to-open on going on fewer dinners out, but when you’re a corporate online marketer whose job includes winning and dining clientele, next that method is not for you personally.

No Accountability Partner

You will find there’s reason why AA participants really need a sponsor: if you wish to stick to a solution, there needs to be an individual consistently pushing you in the direction of it!

It’s but man’s instinct to choose the relaxing route. Hence, they do prefer to be comfortable than to succeed in life.

This chapter is entitled "Set The Table." this chapter is about deciding to what you want to do with your life.

This chapter is entitled “Set The Table.” this chapter is about deciding to what you want to do with your life.

Brian Tracy starts his chapter with a quote from Napoleon Hill. Rubbolite . Hill says, “There is one quality that one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants and a burning desire to achieve it.” You need to decide what you’re going to do before you start eating frogs.

Brian Tracy says that “the number one reason why some more work done faster is because they’re absolutely clear about the goals and objectives.” Chances are that if you’re not clear on what you’re supposed to be doing, then you are going to procrastinate. Tracy goes on to say “the major reason for procrastination and lack of motivation is weakness, confusion, and fuzzy-mindedness about what you are trying to do and in what order and for what reason.”

You know, we like to get started on stuff. But then we get distracted. E-mail pops up. Or a phone call comes in. And pretty soon we are far from doing what we’re supposed to be doing.

In this chapter, Brian Tracy establishes seven steps to increase output.

1. “Decide what you want.” This is not a guessing game. This is an exact thing. It’s tough to decide what you want. There are so many things we like to do.

2. “Write it down.” What’s really amazing about our mind is just how easy it is for us to forget what it is we want. And not just that, but also the fact that we distort it. We change what we. We say, “oh I didn’t really want that. I want this instead.” Writing our goals can keep us focused.

3. “Set a deadline on your goal; set subdeadlines if necessary.” Setting a deadline creates urgency. But it will only create urgency for you if you have consequences for not reaching your deadline. It’s honestly very easy to let a deadline slip by if you’re not disciplined to stick to it or if you don’t have any consequences for missing the deadline.

4. “Make a list of everything that you can think of that you’re going to have to do to achieve your goal.” you’ll need to include absolutely everything on this list. Don’t leave anything off. This will take extreme discipline. It’s tough. We just want to get out and do stuff. If you skip this step I guarantee that you will not reach her goals.

5. “Organize the list into a plan.” This is what is called prioritizing. Prioritizing is merely deciding what needs to be get done first and then going through the list item item and deciding which order to do them. This’ll make your goal reaching a whole lot easier.

6. “Take action on your plan immediately.” Brian Tracy says, “an average plan vigorously executed is far better than a brilliant plan in which nothing is done.” You need to start doing something. This will give you momentum. The more momentum you can garner the more likely you will be to reach your goal.

7. “Resolve to do something every single day that moves you toward your major goal.” It has to be every day. He can’t make up for the time. We can’t skip days. We think that it won’t matter if we don’t do something on a given day. But it matters. One of the things we choose to do can be small things. We can read about a key subject, or make a certain number of calls, or decide to do something for specific amount of time.

Brian Tracy’s seven steps are a simple guidelines to help you reach your goals. But, you will need to be disciplined and you will need to decide what it is you want.
