Emergency Survival Kit, How To Make One

Making an emergency survival kit is something that’s essential to survival. Before you can do that though, you’ll of course need survival goods. The emergency survival kit is going to include all of the needed supplies and equipment for you to get through an emergency situation. Making the kit is going to allow you to have that peace of mind that you’ll be prepared for a loss of your electricity, a flood or any manmade or natural disaster that comes through. It’s fairly easy but you’ll need some supplies first and you’ll want to start off with a large trunk, storage container or duffel.
The trunk, container or duffel will be your storage container.

Start off with the purchasing of a large trunk, duffel or other storage container. This will store all of your supplies so make sure that you’ve designated something that will be big enough to hold everything that you gather. Ensure it has wheels in case you need to move quickly. For the canned and dry foods you should be considering soups, peanut butter, beans, crackers, vegetables. Include other foods that don’t require refrigeration.

Make sure you have, at minimum, three days worth of food and water for yourself and everyone in your family. Remember that the human body needs to be drinking two liters per day and you should be sure that you have enough for cleaning and hygiene as well.
Either put together or purchase a made first aid kit. Be certain that you include the following: bandages, pain relievers, burn cream, rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. Additionally, be sure that put in a week’s worth of all the prescriptions that you and your family might be on. If any oxygen tanks or nebulizers are needed get those from a medical supply store. Be certain that you’re including a portable radio when gathering survival goods. This is going to allow you to be certain you’re getting any crucial information throughout the emergency.

Also make sure that you include flashlights and candles and with those matches and/or a lighter and extra batteries for the flashlight. Get a small gas camping stove along with fuel. You can find this at any sporting goods store and even other stores like Wal-Mart. Keep three full fuel canisters with your kit always. Be sure that you include some games, books, toys and cards to keep the family entertained. Keep everything age appropriate. Make sure that you keep things lightweight as you have to be prepared to move.

To finish off your survival goods kit you need to include any tools, utensils and pocketknives that you might need. Include a small whistle in the kit as this is going to help you attract attention if you need to get out or get stuck. Keep the kit in your home and make sure everyone knows where it’s located. Explain the kit and let them know what it’s for and it’s for an emergency only.
